Michael L. Huie
President/Owner - Associate Degree in Business Management
Mike lived in Alexandria, VA before moving to Fredericksburg in 1989. He worked for six years as a construction diver in the North Sea with Northern Divers and Oceaneering Int. doing saturation diving. He also worked in the Gulf of Mexico air diving for Oceanerring.
He has owned and managed Abby Construction Co., Inc. since 1986 doing residential and commercial renovations. Mike purchases properties in the region for renovating with a Partnership. Some of the older projects were the old St. Mary Catholic Church on Princess Anne Street, a duplex on Charles Street and 816 Caroline St.
If you are involved in local area business you'll probably see Mike. He is on the board of Director's at Hope House, and is heavily involved in the following organizations and charities: CBMC, Knights of Columbus, Christmas in April.
John Hewitt
Superintendent - Hired March 2002
In the US Military, John served for 12 years where he learned leadership and attention to detail. He now uses those skills building and renovating homes and businesses for Abby Construction Co., Inc.
He has one lovely granddaughter and another one on the way. When not admiring his grandchildren, he loves to play golf, softball, basketball, boating and building furniture in his workshop at home.
Gary Dietrich
Foreman - Hired June 1995
Gary was born in Fredericksburg, VA and was raised in Stafford County. After the Marine Corps, he began construction in 1982, and joined the carpenter's union from 1986 through 1994.
In 1995, Gary joined the Abby family to get more consistency and has been here since. He enjoys structural jobs and making people happy when their construction problems are fixed.
When he is not working, Gary likes to watch football and racing.
Darryl Burnette
Lead Carpenter - Hired July 2003
Born in Alexandria, VA he moved to Maryland and graduated from La Plata High School. He has been working in construction as a carpenter for over 28 years. Darryl moved to Lake Anna and joined the Abby Construction team in 2003.
He is a member of Mineral Baptist Church and enjoys fishing, hunting, boating and playing volleyball at the sandbar.
Shawn Smart
Lead Carpenter - Hired October 2001
I have been a finish carpenter for most of my career. My work experience includes stair-building, casework, millwork, and commercial hardware. I have done work for the president and vice-president of Boeing Airlines as an employee of Columbia Woodworking in Washington, D.C.; built circular staircases for a builder in Graham Park Shores in Triangle, VA.; and worked on interior finish carpentry for a builder in Potomac, MD.
My primary goal is to make my final product as close to perfect as conditions permit. I enjoy setting doors, installing complicated hardware, and fitting mouldings and casework in older structures for Abby Construction.
When not working for Abby, I like to spend time gardening or restoring my vintage Ford truck.
Lisa M. Wyland
Administrative Assistant - Hired March 1999
When you contact Abby Construction, one of the first people you will speak with is Lisa Wyland. Lisa is a native Virginia resident and has been employed with Abby Construction since March 1999. She moved from Northern Virginia to the Spotsylvania area in 1994.
Prior to working at Abby Construction, she was a stay at home mom with four children. She took accounting at Northern Virginia Community College. She has acquired diverse experience in accounting and supervising at various businesses in Northern Virginia from a car dealership to automotive parts to retail.
In her spare time, she enjoys working with stained glass, reading, writing, computer graphics, aromatherapy and exploring and photographing nature.
